Our School Ethos and Values
Our ethos at Southfield Primary School reflects a passionate commitment to learning and recognition of the uniqueness of individual learners. It is driven by our desire to offer the best possible education for our pupils in partnership with parents and the local community.
Southfield Primary School is a place where everyone has a champion, someone who never gives up on them and insists they can be the best they can possibly be.
Please visit our Ethos and Values page for further information. Click here
Children are admitted into school in accordance with Southfield Primary School's admissions arrangements. You can find further information about our admissions, including our Admissions Policy here.
Charging & Remissions Policy
Southfield Primary School believes that all our pupils should have an equal opportunity to benefit from school activities and visits (curricular and extra curricular) independent of their parents’ financial means. This charging and remissions policy describes how we will do our best to ensure a good range of visits and activities is offered and, at the same time, try to minimise the financial barriers which may prevent some pupils taking full advantage of the opportunities.
It is in everyone’s interest that complaints are resolved at the earliest possible stage. Many issues can be resolved informally, without the need to invoke formal procedures. As a school we take informal concerns seriously and make every effort to resolve the matter as quickly as possible.
There are occasions when complainants would like to raise their concerns formally. In these cases, the school’s formal procedure should be invoked.
Please follow this link to our Curriculum area of the website to find out further information about our school's approaches to Teaching & learning, including subject information and Curriculum Frameworks. As well as documents about our Curriculum, you will also find information about assessment.
If you would like any further information about the curriculum please ask your child's teacher directly or contact the school office.

Governors' Information and Duties
As a school we are very proud of our governors who take their duties very seriously and give up their time in the interests of the whole-school community. They make an important contribution to raising standards and maintain high aspirations.
It is a statutory requirement that details of the structure and responsibilities of the Governing Body and its committees are available to all, and for all Governors to record any business, financial and other governance interests held either personally or through a company or relative or partner.

OFSTED is the Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills. They report directly to Parliament and are responsible for inspecting and regulating schools, pre-schools, nurseries, and any services caring for children and young people, as well as those providing education and skills for learners of all ages. A list of Southfield Primary School's most recent inspection reports can be found here or you can visit our Ofsted area of our website for further information.
PE & Sports Premium
PE & Sport Premium is funding provided to primary schools to enhance the provision of PE and sport. The Government has committed to keeping the funding in place until 2020. It is for schools to decide how the PE and Sport funding is spent.
Please click here to find out further information about the Sports Premium Funding and view our annual report.
This section on the DfE website pulls together new and current research and evaluation projects, research centres, publications and data from a range of sites, making it easier to compare a selection of individual schools and to see all the information in one place.
The Government believes that the Pupil Premium, which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between children eligible for free school meals (FSM) and their wealthier peers by ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the pupils who need it most.
Please visit our Pupil Premium area of the website to find out further information and view our Pupil Premium Strategy.
Reading & Phonics
At Southfield Primary School we use parts of the synthetics phonics programme ‘Letters and Sounds.’ alongside our own system for phonics developed by our Foundation Stage team. Children begin phonics on day one in our Nursery and Reception Classes and are taught daily in small groups. Alongside the groups, teachers will refer to the phonics programme throughout the day, for example referring to a speed sound or green or red word at any given time. Please visit our English Guidance of the website to find out further information by following this link.
Safeguarding & Child Protection Policy
The Governing Body of Southfield Primary School takes its responsibility under section 11 of the Children Act and duties under “working together” to safeguard and promote the welfare of children very seriously. We work together with other agencies to ensure adequate arrangements exist within our setting to identify, and support those children who are suffering harm or are likely to suffer harm.
Please read our Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy here or visit our Safeguarding information page here.
Special Educational Needs (SEN) & Disability Information
Children with SEN all have learning difficulties or disabilities that make it harder for them to learn than most children of the same age. These children may need extra or different help from that given to others.
