Important announcement: Decision to permanently close Southfield Primary Academy
Dear parent and carer,
It is with great sadness that we are writing to advise you that the Trustees of Southfield Primary Academy have formally decided to close Southfield Primary School from the end of the current academic year on Friday 19 July 2024. The Department of Education (DfE) have approved this decision.
Despite the significant improvements made in the quality of education, the continued falling numbers of pupils on roll, along with the predicted drop in future numbers, has resulted in the school becoming financially unviable. This means that we are unable to afford to keep the school open beyond 19 July 2024.
We would like to provide you with assurance that the school will remain fully open with no changes to the current operational arrangements until Friday 19 July 2024.
We are working closely with West Northamptonshire Council (WNC) and the DfE to ensure that all affected children have access to an alternative nearby school, with no break in education - this is a council priority.
We understand that this announcement may be very unsettling for you and your children and that there may be a number of questions that you have. To answer these questions alongside providing further information on next steps, the Trustees are entering into a four-week listening period from Monday 9 October. A number of in-person sessions will be held during this period – the dates of these are shown further below. Members of the School Admissions Team from West Northamptonshire Council will also be on hand to advise on the application process for a new school.

Finally, we would like to extend a sincere thank you and much gratitude to the wonderful families and staff that have supported Southfields Primary and contributed to the warm and happy environment that children have been able to learn in. This will be deeply missed by all.
